Anyone a fan of the Science Adventure Series? Anonymous 08/28/2023 (Mon) 20:49:36 Id:ffbb35 No. 306 [Reply]
I'm playing through Chaos;Head atm. Hoping to go through the whole series in order starting with Chaos;Head. Played and watched Steins;Gate and Zero a long while ago too C;H is a really insane ride so far lol

>>307 I've just finished Chaos;Head for the first time and it's a pretty wild ride, really fun! As the other anons said, they're in the same universe, but only loosely. Websites like @channel and some occasional references to each other (except with Robotics;Notes Dash as said above) but otherwise don't interact. Id say just pick one and play it, Steins;Gate is just the most well-known of them, but honestly feel any is fine to start with.

>>306 I only played Chaos;Head & Child, Steins;Gate. my favorite of them all was definitely Chaos;Child. chaos head was good and has my favorite girls but chaos child just does everything else the best. the story and the art etc. just a shame there was no nanami or what was her name,.. the other sexy loli girl. norriii, kerpeww! girl. ah she was the cutest. I saw there was a new release of the games for switch a little while ago. I heard it was censored somehow etc. but I don't have a switch. someone tell me what they think of robots;notes and whatever else has come out since :p I'm curious. I was obsessed with this whole series years ago but I've fallen off with it since 2016 about. Chaos Head was always the most cozy for me. playing as takumi makes you feel like you're always escaping real life to play as another person, trying to escape their own life and it really gets you into it that way.. hiding in your little cave and playing online. only to be bothered by a bunch of sexy gurls, stalked by some make a wish kid who threatens you. the game gave me the dream of living in my own little hole in the middle of shibuya one day.

>>589 >someone tell me what they think of robots;notes and whatever else has come out since :p I'm curious I played Robotics;Notes a couple years ago, and man I have a lot to say... Robotics;Notes is inspired by mecha anime. A lot. Back when I read it I hadn't seen a lot of mecha at that point, but I could still tell that it was just a huge tribute to that whole genre. Its story feels a lot like highschool club slice-of-life anime, a robotics club in this case. But then, a whole lot of conspiracy-theory shit happens and it takes a huge turn in a completely different direction. I guess it's sort of the same as Steins;Gate in that regard. Also, there's a lot of references to Steins;Gate. There's a twitter-like social media (sort of like how you could view @Channel threads in Chaos;Child, you can see Twitter posts here, can't really remember what it was called) and you get to see some posts by Kurisu there. Daru gets mentioned a lot and Nae (Mr. Braun's daughter) is a really important character (and all grown up now). I don't really remember the whole story, but it gets really, really deep into the whole Committee of 300 conspiracy. There's even a real mad scientist character here, who's something like the main antagonist. I feel like it's supposed to set up a lot for future VNs in this series, since I sort of remember it leaving a lot of unanswered questions about the organization. Also, there's apparently a regular Robotics;Notes and Robotics;Notes ELITE. The ELITE version is what I played because everyone says that's the one you should play. It looks a little different from a standard VN because all the character sprites are 3D (pic related). It was a little weird at first but I remember warming up to it pretty quickly. Also there's a lot of movies with animation that looks like it came straight out of an anime, so that's pretty unique too. About the other VNs that've come out, I haven't played Robotics;Notes DASH yet, but I hear that a new Steins;Gate VN is supposed to be releasing soon. The name and synopsis is unknown currently, it's only known as Steins:Gate ???. So that's pretty exciting. Also apparently, a completely new VN came out too, called Anonymous;Code. I have zero idea what it's about, but I know that it's in this same universe and not a part of the Steins;Gate, Chaos;Head or Robotics;Notes series.
>>
arimura...
>>
>>307 here, i probably should've also asked which versions of the games should i play as well lol it also screws with me when VNs have multiple different versions, i'm always afraid some version will have content missing or something... i'm writing a thing about 16bit sensation, and that anime reminded me that i still need to play steins;gate at some point...

>>674 tomenet uses real time turns, which in my opinion ruins the roguelike experience. if I had to implement it, I would divide the world between public "mmo" areas (towns and such) with real time turns, and private/party dungeons with regular roguelike turns. pvp could have regular turns with a timer like chess

Whats the hardest game you've completed? Did you enjoy it? I completed Dark Souls, although I did use summons sometimes, didn't for bloodborne, although that was easier. Dark Souls was great. My favourite part of it was just exploring the different areas and their enviroments, it has some of the best map/level designs I've ever seen. People talk about the bosses a lot, and I enjoyed most of them, but they're sooo stressful.

I don't know if this is embarrassing to say but the hardest game I beat without any difficulty options was probably GTA 3. I played the PS2 version and it controls like Max Payne with OoT controls and no bullet time. Tons of missions past the first quarter of the game 100% weren't playtested by anyone, and usually rely too much on trial and error, have horrible time limits, or both at the same time. Walkthroughs just barely make the game easier. I've heard people say that San Andreas is harder purely because of the train mission, but I'm blaming that on the PC port being half-assed since I've never failed that on PS2.

>>285 after months, i finally beat No More Heroes 2 on the hardest difficulty! ...paradoxically, even on bitter, this game wasn't super hard to me, it was literally just one phase of the final boss that i was stuck on for months. the frustration of that one boss was almost not worth beating the game, but also the fun i had with everything else outweighs that.
>>
>>285 Recently I've 100% Elden Ring I'd say it was the hardest Souls game I've played so far (and I've finished all the Dark Souls), mainly due to its different approach and mechanics, which I was not used to, but the easiest to get all the achievements in Now I'm playing Tears of the Kingdom in my Steam Deck
>>
>>623 Agreed. I'm playing it for the first time with a friend and we're slowly going through 100% completion. Even some of the missions are a headache to get through, not considering the tedium of 100%.

One's have had to retry bosses the most are ds3 and the trails of cold steel series. Trails could be hard but always had room to try different strategies, was very satisfying to figure one out that finally worked. DS3 when you lost it would happen quickly but in a jrpg where boss battles can go 30 minutes - an hour losing towards the end hurts much more, esp when you realize you were just stupid/confident.

Not too long ago I played through Overboard, a short map pack from the guy who made Going Down. Short and sweet maps with some awesome level design, and a NG+ mode with harder enemy placements after you beat it for the first time. Link to the Doomworld page: https://doomwiki.org/wiki/Overboard

What is your favourite video game character? Anonymous 02/07/2024 (Wed) 11:57:57 No. 646 [Reply]
There has always been some of the characters inspired me to change or effected me so deeply that I needed to give some time until I play another game. And it's probably Angel Beats' main character Yuzuru Otonashi. I don't want to spoil it for anybody so ifykyk. Btw, anime is recommended. Game is not different than anime.
>>
it would be hard for me to choose only one favorite video game character for this; i've been playing games for most of my life, so there are lots of video game stories and characters that have had a personal impact on me, but Sonic and Shadow were my childhood heroes, so if i had to choose one, then i guess those two

Master Chief. He's got a level head, he never gives up, and he always finishes the fight. >>646 Angel Beats is pretty good, I remember it having an impact on me over a decade ago. It's funny you mention it now, I just started re-watching it for old times sake.

Rare videogame finds? Anonymous 01/04/2024 (Thu) 23:56:57 No. 608 [Reply]
What are some games you have come across when digging deep into obscure territory that have left you surprisingly satisfied? Pic rel I found on Steam after digging deep recently. It's a remake/reimagining of the first game in some Korean mobile game franchise(that I've never heard of). It starts out with that mobile game life-simmy feel but quickly balloons into something bigger and it ended up being one of my favorite JRPGs of all time. And no one is talking about it anywhere so I feel like a lottery winner just for finding it. Need more games like that.
>>
>>608 well, you might want to define "obscure", because there are people who think xenoblade, mother, and shin megami tensei are ""obscure"" while there are games on steam that have like 5 downloads and jp-only games that are only on the ps vita that only 10 people have played to answer the question seriously the Mary Skelter series is really cool, but not a lot of people really talk about it, at best you'll see it get mentioned in passing in dungeon-crawling threads on 4/v/... it's a series of first person dungeon crawlers with turn-based combat (think classic SMT or Etrian Odyssey), but made by the Hyperdimension Neptunia developers, so there's a huge emphasis on the (majority) female cast, who're all based on different fairytales. in battles, you have to manages the girls' mental state, represented by a bloodstain meter by their health bar; the darker the blood color, the more likely they'll go insane during battle when the gauge fills up, at which point you no longer have control over their actions for the remainder of that battle unless certain requirements are met. you can restore their sanity by sacrificing some of the protagonist's blood, but if the protagonist runs out of blood, he's out for the rest of the battle as well with no way to bring him back. this resource management makes boss fights really hectic and fun. Mary Skelter 2 is especially really good imo; the gameplay balance is at its best in that one (the two versions of the first game both have their own slight issues which make both games too punishing, and the third game has a steep difficulty curve in the beginning imo) and it has one of my favorite stories in a game also, the games' soundtracks are really good. https://youtu.be/kVkNByesJSY?feature=shared https://youtu.be/GzaMFTHalB4?feature=shared https://youtu.be/VB7BXyDih54?feature=shared i could make this post so much longer. Compile Heart's entire repertoire is underappreciated in general. if JRPGs are supposedly more appreciated now than they were in the 2000s or 2010s, i'm really not seeing it outside of a handful of series getting overinflated importance. i also really wanted to mention Go Hell Go and Tsurugihime, but neither of those are out yet, so i wasn't sure if that would be cheating.
