Things are still wonky, still needs to be polished

i was almost curious if anyone here really played JRPGs, despite literally, indisputably being otaku culture, it feels like nobody on these imageboards really does, or at least they never really talk about them. i played persona 3 portable ages ago, and of course i really liked it, because persona is cool, but (and this is admittedly very petty of me), i feel like the games are getting too popular recently, so i've been getting burnt out. like, i don't think there's any one opinion anyone could have about any of the games that someone has not already had.

If you compare the original with Reload though it becomes clear that the original is better visually speaking as well as in gameplay. In fact, the changes to the gameplay by adding party control and other additions brought over from P5 is what really makes me not want to play it. There's a reason why you can't control your party or use another character's skills in the menu like you would use your own or why you can't change a character's status without directly going up to them and issuing a command. It's meant to make each character feel like their own separate entity that you talk to and in a game specifically about bonds with other characters, that's beyond essential. All this obsession with blindly "smoothing over" a game to make it easier to play at the expense of immersion like in P3 is what makes most modern games so forgettable.

I loved this game. The only downside is how grindy it is and the fact it can get repetitive and really drag on which deters me from replaying it as an adult. I've heard the PSP version fixed some of these issues but at the expense of the cutscenes and some of the 3D environments, which I just can't do without.

>>693 I'm a bit unsure of what to think of it now. Played P3P in highschool and loved it back then, but thinking back the gameplay was rather dull (compared to other atlus rpgs) and characters relatively flat, music was nice in some aspects tho. Maybe after growing up the game lost its appeal

>>693 I played it for the first time last year and already replayed it twice since then it's the first game I got really obsessed with in a long while. Everything people complain about comparing it with other versions of the game is something I love. I finished Reload literally yesterday and while I didn't dislike it as much as I thought I would it makes me kinda sad most people will experience either this or the hideous AI upscales in the "remaster" of Portable instead of Fes sigh. I also want to play the vanilla PS2 version someday out of curiousity

It's why I respect FF7R and why I look forward to the Fate Extra remake (the original was a glorified phone game) and don't want to hear a word about the MGS3 remake. It also makes game devs lazy since now Konami can just spend the new few years remaking every MGS game except 5. But it's also why I welcome a Persona 1 remake if it changes things around to be more like Persona 3 onwards. Because at the end of the day, you'll still have the original if you want a different experience (to make bad games good, you have to change a lot of things around; and reimaginings of good games change enough things to make the original still worth playing)

P1 is a good game as is, but mostly needs its battle system to be re-balanced so that guns aren't as overpowered + make the positioning options meaningful

>>1151 Well persona 1 is a fine game, but you know they're not gonna just going to re-balance things if they plan on remaking it. As opposed to if they completely change things around and give us a different experience. Yeah they fucked up the atmosphere with the music on the psp, but if they make a full blown reimagining that's more in line with later persona games (with social links and all) and with story changes then both games will be able to stand on their own. At least that's what I think anyway, a lot of people today play the original FF7 for the first time instead of waiting for part 3 of the reimagining; and a lot more will do so once it's all out as the story, gameplay and pacing are different enough for it.

The QoL in portable did make it easier to get through the game and I did enjoy the Femc route but it's missing content and still has Tartarus. They probably won't even bother making it simply similar to modern persona, that's too much work. I mean, it's a remake with the word "Persona" slapped on it, it's gonna sell like hot cakes no matter how good it actually is. And like any and all declining studios, the talents that made the previous games possible are probably all leaving. But I'd be glad to eat my words, I'll even forgive them for Persona 3 Reload and the future awful Persona 4 remake.

>>1164 Oh yeah, I totally forgot about Kanji for a moment there. That would be the one that would obviously receive the most censorship. It really captures the general attitude of all these rewrites. Instead of trying to make creative story points out of issues that aren't always sweet or easy to think about, the main idea is just to remove everything dark and force an upbeat atmosphere. It would be even more destructive in the case of Persona 4, since most of the substance of the story lied in these kinds of scenarios. But this is all just speculation. It could be that they realize what I'm saying and decide to retain it. Who knows. I'm still not going to play it.

While I understand retranslating the game in the case of localizations I don't get messing with the original script...? Still this is the "characters are not allowed to die or have any strong negative feelings" modern persona we're talking about. I like p5 I like p5r but that's how I feel about a good chunk of it

But in the case of P4 it's certainly going to be interesting because they're bound to piss a huge chunk of people off, no matter what they do.

Like after Aegis makes a speech about friendship or the future or whatever, Yukari just dismisses it as pompous and continues her hostilities because her feelings were just too intense. >>1170 I think I'm still more positive on Reload than most people even though I really didn't like it that much. but the one thing that's driving me crazy is how many people I've seen calling the ps2 cutscenes ugly out of the sudden like Of course we all agree they're wonky. but at least they're thought out compared to the ugly unserious both 2d and 3d slop from the remake. I played Reload recently and the cutscenes are so unserious every single one outside of the awakening and a certain death scene are so bad like come onnn
