Thoughts on 4chan's source code? https://github.com/4chan-org/4chan

in dire need of a refactor

I wouldn't have handholding with this source code.

>>1247 I loved how the spam filter was just regex and very bad regex at that.

>>

Have any imageboards used it yet? I know there was this one called Dizzychan that was set up as a test but as expected it died within a week.

>>

>>1703 There's basically zero interest because it's so outdated you need a server with very old repos so outside of a curiosity there's no reason to make one

>>

They took it down. I wanted to see inside. Like what makes 4chan tick.

Your fortune: Good Luck

Seems like it's available here: https://github.com/4chan-org/yotsuba This is assuming that this is actually the github of the legendary hacker known as 4chan. For whatever reason it's forked from zearp/4chan........ It'd be awfully weird if whoever control's the supposedly official github of 4chan to have uploaded the 'sharty hacker's source code leak instead of just uploading the files from their own, actual servers. Though I imagine that whoever owns the github is lazy --- after all, it's way less of a hassle to just upload what's already there than to grab it from the servers themselves... become one requires logging in to the servers and extracting the files... the other just requires uploaded files.... heck they just forked the files, didn't even have to bother with uploading them. Sooooooooooooooooooooo.... is 4chan now open source??? I'm being as verbose as I am because I'm somewhat autistic anal about factuality. No I don't think I'm autistic :^) also I'm just messing with the styling and such because it's fun lol happy2happy2 pls don't kill me admin syrno-sama

Your fortune: Outlook good

It's apparently licensed under GPL so I guess it is open source. Huh. It is fitting given the history and people of 4chinz but for some reason it's a bit unexpected to me.

>>1835 So we can just use the official yotsuba code to make imageboards now? Any new sites use it yet?

>>

>>1836 Take this post as a grain of salt, because my knowledge is based on rumors on the Internets. But I think I get your surprise. Assuming that this really is the legitimate 4chan source code, it's definitely strange because it's always been proprietary in the past. I don't know much about 4chan's technical history, but I'm pretty sure that 4chan's script started as a translation of futaba channel's / 2chan.net's source code, which is downloadable for free from their website (I don't know what license it uses, if any). I'm purely speculating, but maybe moot & friends knew it was poorly coded and intentionally sought security through obscurity, so they just kept it proprietary. >It is fitting given the history and people of 4chinz Yeah, I imagine* a disproportionate number of people espouse FOSS (I am one :) ) on 4chan, so it's a little ironic that the site itself runs proprietary code. *I have no idea how many people support FOSS on other social medias because I pretty much exclusively use imageboards. I'm assuming that the more mainstream, the lower the share, generally speaking. i'm rambling now >>1838 I'm not aware of any sites that are using it. But yeah I'm sure you could run your own imageboard with yotsuba's code. I haven't looked through the files nor do I even know much PHP in the first place, so I don't know if the code actually works or not. Though given 4chan's history of hacks, you'd probably want to make some changes.

>>

>>1838 I believe there were a few attempts although nothing lasting. Doesn't help that you'd need a pretty outdated environment to run this if I'm not mistaken?

>>1839 >I'm assuming that the more mainstream, the lower the share, generally speaking. Yeah, normans don't really care about FOSS. or even understand what that means. There is a more considerable size of people who understand and generally prefer OSS, but even they are a vocal minority. Let alone FOSSmans. Gotta remember, mainstream social media is full of people who don't even know what an IP address is or what an operating system is.

>>

>>1843 lol, if you ask some of my friends, getting someone's IP address means you're le the ultimate h4xx0r.

>>

>>1840 Poorchan uses it but that site feels more like a test than an actual attempt at running an imageboard
