What kind of projects are you working/worked on /t/? Or if you're not working on something, do you have any ideas you'd like to work on? Share your progress or showcase your works

Currently working on a mobile phone gacha game because money. (not some extreme capitalist, just need monetary support for my future projects)
>>
>>2 Fire emblem style strategy game in zig, using SDL and opengles 2 I only started last week dont ask for screenshots
>>
>>5 I wish I had seen this sooner I had no idea what to do so this helps a lot, thanks!
>>
Been inspired by Cyberpunk 2077. Maybe some type of metroidvania + cyberpunk style
>>
starting my first project probably gonna be some kind of minimal text editor, with simple save and search feature in python; nothing too interesting but I want to make something to learn to code with. >>274 much more creative idea than me, what software are you going to use?

What was your first computer? First OS you used? Do you still have it? Mine was a shitty iMac G4, but I got some DELL running Windows XP shortly after

The first computer I had to myself was an upper-low-end custom-built my stepdad made for me. I don't know much about it except how it ran Windows 7 (or maybe 8.x at some point) and we upgraded it to Windows 10 in 2016.

>>24 I had a similar laptop from the same age which also came with vista I had it stored in a box. but my mom decided to throw it away because when she is bored she needs to come up with something to clean

The family PC was a beige computer running Windows XP. Parents say it was a Compaq Presario (likely picrel). Then around 2005 maybe we upgraded to what looked like a Dell Dimension 3000. We had it for years. Sometime down the road the family installed Windows Vista, I can't remember if it was on the same Dell or if we had another new computer at that point but we switched to Windows 7 around 2010. I probably remember the Dell so vividly because we had it for so long. I only remember that Compaq Presario as "the beige computer" since it was so long ago in my formative years.

How much math is actually required when programming?
10 posts and 3 images omitted.
>>
>>38 It's literally all algebra so if you're a low IQ loser who wasn't able to finish year 12 levels maths you're not going to be able to do it. You'll end up as some midwit who can only copy other people's shit in Python or C#
>>
>>
>>38 understanding basic geometry in 2D and in 3D, (for example, equations of lines, linear interpolations between points) is very helpful if you are dealing with graphics or even just bare gui layouts For everything else, the way math works is that once someone has figured something out you can just copy the solution. It's highly unlikely that you ever get to work on something inovative so its quite useless. It's still a good idea to understand these things tough If I say that your algorithm takes quadratic time, you should immediately know what that means and why otherwise you will look like a dunce
>>
The amount of math you need will vary depending on what "genre" of programming you're working in. Web development might not need more than basic arithmetic, but you should explore languages that specialize in scientific computation to see another world of computing. https://julialang.org/community/organizations/
>>
Not a lot and for those areas where it is necessary you can learn it then since it's usually just a sub-part of what you'd get taught in school. (like matrices and calculus for 3D graphics or understanding the modular multiplicative inverse for RSA crypto) It's usually the theoretical college parts for academics that focus on the mathematics.

What's the best client for torrenting? I've used things like qbittorrent before but I want to know if there's something better.
>>
I think qBitTorrent is fine just continue using that
>>
Qbittorent is just a front-end for libtorrent and libtorrent is pretty much the best one out there in terms of performance. Qbittorent is a bit laggy though especially when you seed hundreds of torrents so i use rutorrent and run it as a daemon but it's pretty much the same thing so don't bother if you don't have a seedbox. But yeah what defines "the best" torrent client? the elitists from private trackers agreed that the best one is libtorrent and it's frontends ages ago nothing new came out besides maybe transmission but it's kinda duct taped together in a hurry btpd is pretty good if you are autistic and minimalistic
>>
>But yeah what defines "the best" torrent client? i just want something scriptable tbh i have a homeserver and i want to leave it seeding and feeding all day, and i dont have any graphical engine installed on it, nor do i want to manually ssh into it every time i wanna add a new torrent also another good question is how tf do i even keep my torrent directory organized cant even move stuff around or rename it smh this is why i want script capabilities so i can keep things easy to find
>>
>i just want something scriptable tbh the fuck are you scripting? >i have a homeserver and i want to leave it seeding and feeding all day, and i dont have any graphical engine installed on it, nor do i want to manually ssh into it every time i wanna add a new torrent rutorrent is just what you need >also another good question is how tf do i even keep my torrent directory organized IMPOSSIBLE seriously you are asking for too much there >cant even move stuff around or rename it smh yeah that's why i just use symlinks everywhere bruteforcing like a retard
>>
>>57 rtorrent is minimalistic and just works

What's your main browser? I like to use Pale Moon with a Netscape theme to browse old sites, Brave for more general stuff, and regular Firefox as a general alternative

>>116 >Vivaldi Chrome fork #809789, with the gimmick of coming with additional excessive BLOAT. Not good for privacy https://spyware.neocities.org/articles/vivaldi >Chrome Whatever you do, JUST DON'T USE CHROME. It's SUPER-SPYWARE. https://spyware.neocities.org/articles/chrome >Fire/Waterfox https://spyware.neocities.org/articles/firefox https://spyware.neocities.org/articles/waterfox_classic Both are bad for privacy, but at least you can mitigate the spying https://spyware.neocities.org/guides/firefox But if you don't want to go through the hassle of mitigating the spying, you can just use a Firefox fork that's better for privacy by default, like Librewolf or Mullvad Browser. >but some of the websites I use don't support those Wow, that's retarded. Those must probably be some shitty spyware websites with a gorillion JavaShits and whatnot, right? Well, those websites are not a reason not to use Firefox-based browsers, since you can use them for most websites, and then use Chrome-based browsers for those shitty few websites. Some decent Chrome forks that don't spy much on you much are Iridium and Ungoogled Chromium.
>>
Brave is the best browser. Works perfectly, runs fast, and doesn't steal my data
>>
>>140 It's better than Chrome and whatnot, but it's still not too good for privacy (https://spyware.neocities.org/articles/brave) and comes with a lot of bloat, including shady cryptoshit. Also, it's a fork of Chromium, so you're still contributing to Google's monopoly on web browsers. I rather recommend Librewolf (https://librewolf.net/), which is based on Firefox, but has huge privacy and security improvements.
>>
>>142 Haven't heard of Librewolf before, I'll look into it
>>
>>8 I just use firefox-esr with some custom settings I prefer to avoid using the web than to try and make it usable

>>173 i don't think this is a virus OP, i've had this happen to family before, you probably clicked on something in chrome and you allowed it to show you notifications fiddling with the settings should work besides you definitely need an adblocker or just use brave
>>
Did you solve the problem? The best thing is to reinstall Windows, but failing that you can try to get rid of it with different freeware anti-viruses e.g. Malwarebytes. It's probably not a full-blown virus, but adware/PUPs can be pretty bad.
>>
>>186 yes, my brother fixed the problem. in fact I had to click on a pop up window without doing it on purpose then it installed itself in Google (on Google you have in the settings there is a category where you can see the installed adds and it is this is where the virus (?) was installed and this is where they had to be deleted yeahI think it was a pop up that install itself on the add on of google
>>
>>185 indeed this is what happened, you're right

Do you like to mess with circuits /t/?
>>
No, it's scary

I wished I got to mess more with them. Usually I just stick to the ethereal essence labeled as "software" but I'd like to try some hands-on projects A project I'd like to try making is a moving Gunpla https://www.instructables.com/Moving-Gunpla-Gundam/
