Can we have a laid back game dev thread where we share tips on software tools / artwork and whatnot? Ya, I love steam. Do you use any game engines for your game dev :D

>>

>>1118 Godot, I wish I had learnt something else instead :/ >subpar binary obfuscation >doing anything other than putting assets on the screen or moving the camera is a pain, follows an example Part of the reason why I made the thread is actually because i can't figure out how to modify the interpolation settings of a 2d sprite's scaling without getting a "this won't work in the export" warning message. Storing sprites as 32x32 and scaling them up is industry standard since pixel-perfect display was obsolete, yet.

>>

I really liked playing with Unity, it is funny how a bad rep it got.

>>

>>1120 Yeaaa, there's like a ton of controversies around it. The engine's pretty solid though. >>1119 It's still pretty early on in the engine's development. Gotta give it a few more years to hammer out the bugs ;-;

>>

will open source ever rival unreal

>>

i really want to make a VN sometime but i haven't actually played that many before so i'm a bit weary of doing the genre wrong

>>

>>1125 look into Ren'Py, a lot of VN's are written in Python using that engine. https://www.renpy.org/

>>

>>1126 having a good tool != being good at writing a story or designing character interactions

>>

>>1124 Maybe in the next like 10 years like blender LOL. But even then I still feel like people would use non-open source projects like Maya

>>

>>1118 >Do you use any game engines for your game dev No. I just SFML, but maybe I would if I was doing anything 3D.

this is so weird, i closed a tab that was talking about gamedev/agdg and someone had read an posters VN, and i cant find it now. i thought it was this thread but nope. >>1119 im too much of a noob to understand this post. do you mean "nearest" texture filter? or maybe look into subviewports for scaling i made this game using godot and blender last week. it was just a basic fetch quest for my friends birthday, but it was fun to make

will be people here interested into making a video game? I was thinking about a cyberpunk video game like neotokyo⁰ would be good. what do you think? are you in?

>>

>>1200 looks good hikarin

>>

>>1204 i'll make the logo

>>

>>1206 you can start now

>>

>>1200 That looks awesome :O Imagine getting a game as your birthday gift.

>>

>>1207 if you want a real answer i have no skill or experience in developing games. other hikarins might tho.

>>

>>1209 I too have 0 experience LOL

>>

there is a game dev thread up right now (>>1117 ) that you may want to check for potential helpers

>>

>>1211 oh sorry didn't check the catalog, thank you for telling. how do I make mods deleting this thread?

>>

>>1200 damn the game looks like a fever dream, good job

>>

>>1212 i merged it with the other thread

>>

I want to make a cyberpunk game but it is too complicated and undoable because I'm not a dev or a game creator, I've never done something like that before. my project will 'ever come to live unfortuneately. basically the game is just like neotokyo⁰ 2 but with a story mod. I don't know if I should make it a story driven game or a online game like neotokyo⁰. the game would take place in neo-tokyo, an artificial island inside the tokyo bay, japan.

>>

>>1214 thanks

>>

>>1200 i was trying to use the Image class and its filtering settings because i didn't know that you could access the same stuff through CanvasItem.texture_filter

>>

>>1215 You can script for the Source engine, just mod neotokyo, you can't compete

>>

>>1218 yeah this. it would likely be easier to mod Neotokyo and make a story mode that way.

>>

>>1204 Oh nose not again

Some of the character concepts for this 2d fightan i am making don't really translate to the resolution, and it makes me mad
